It's quite important for Ash's development, 1st phase Ash gets overwhelmed by Cynthia's strategy at 1st ep, next 2nd phase where Ash starting to gain the momentum of the battle here at 2nd ep finally the 3rd phase where we finally see the conclusion, will Ash Finally surpass Cynthia and be the one who will challenge Dante/Leon. Or will it be like the usual Pokemon plot where Ash will lose just before he battle against the Champion?

Technically Garchomp mega is slower, and she dont want slower vs Lucario, so would make sense. Just why Togekiss over Milotic though, thats what i dont get, if she Dmax Milotic vs Dracovish she probably takes out Sirfech'd with it leaving ash on an impossible 3v1

IF that was her logic, then throwing out flinch hax is a terrible play beacuse either lucario is immune to flinching OR he gets speed boosts from them

The writers want her to lose, they made garchomp use scale shot to reduce her defense but then doesn't give it the +2 speed. THEN they let the garchomp take a meteor assault and despite every reason for cynthia to avoid taking any damage, Garchomp with its boosted speed, stood there and took the hit. That's why Ash will win.

It took the hit because it had just finished using Draco Meteor you dummy. If it had dodged it would’ve been hit by its own attack.

wouldnt be the first pokemon to move around while avoiding Draco Meteor and so long as its not a recharge move there is room for action

That's just game stats though mind you, probably wouldn't even notice a difference in speed in the anime tbh. But yeah, I would've liked to see Ash get out the 3v1.

hm so she opted into using daimax on her togekiss and win through type advantage and saving her ace for last as backup in case lucario manages to barely pull through. honestly, disappointed we wont see mega garchomp vs mega lucario, but its a respectable strat. nonetheless

Ash and that lucario can do that daimax level aura sphere. They might play with that and not even megaevolve lucario until garchomp.

The preview showed that Lucario will Mega Evolve and battle Togekiss and Garchomp.. lmao

Well, not really type advantage. Both flying and fairy being very effective on fighting are evened out by Lucario's steel type, which is also offensively effective against Togekiss. The one type advantage he does have is Zen Headbutt. Flinching won't help it either, since Lucario has either Inner Focus which makes it immune to flinch, or Steadfast, which makes it faster when flinched.

pretty sure he has steadfast cause it managed to parry all of the hits, plus togekiss can still do major damage and set up with speed boost with the air daimax move, as opposed to losing her togekiss and then betting on a lower health garchomp mega evolving and finishing

except there was nothing to state that the writers remembered lucario had abilities. There was no usual boost animation to show the Lucario got the speed boost, it didnt do anything to suggest it got faster and none of the character called it out...

so it is probably immune to flinching then, if they are immune to something would anyone really be able to tell just by locking?

If it was immune to flinching then why didnt it fire the Aura Sphere?

but of course majority would have that opinion, togekiss doesn't have a type advantage on lucario. its full neutral with all of its damage choices and lucario is either immune to flinch or becomes faster and faster when a flinch happens. Dymaxing Togekiss is like giving ash both a free KO, and giving up your best chance at an easy win in one go; she has all but handed him this match in the latter half in a way that is uncharacteristic.

i mean her garchomp doesnt even have earthquake, based on whats been shown she has a rock move and 3 dragon moves. so itd be relying purely on stab. so daimax fly move, does good amount of damage and sets up speed boost for her own team. its the better choice imo

true, but does Lucario have any move that hits Togakiss for good damage? as it is a flying/fairy type so it should have plenty of resistenaces against fighting type moves.

yes ...it does know a few moves that should shake togekiss....U see since togekiss is a flying and fairy type ....steel type moves are very effective on it, so i guess lucario's bullet punch and steel beem might do a lot of damage to cynthia's dimax togekiss

bullet punch is a steel-type move that should be super effective against fairy.

Issue is why Dmax Togekiss and not Milotic, it was an easy win for Cynthia right then and there if she took out Sirfech'd with Milotic

sirfetch'd base attack is really good so assuming his champion team is built well, it isnt surprising it knocked out milotic tbh and im guessing she felt like his sirfetch'd wouldve won and she wouldve wasted her one ace power up against ash who still has mega lucario up his sleeve
